Lee Greenwood
(Q)-What about the new interest in your career due to the patriotic side of your music?
You’ve been asked on sit in and comment on several high profile national television news shows, due to your renown as a recording artist who loves to sing about America and your love for this great country. And what about the controversy surrounding the Pledge of Allegiance ruling, it has been an issue you’ve spoken out about and regarding, Lee hasn’t it?
Lee Greenwood- Yes it has. Because, The “American Patriot” album has on it a song called “Pledge Of Allegiance”. I have been on (names many TV shows) talking about the pledge of Allegiance and the “Under God”, issue. Now I am a Christian. And I think that it didn’t say anything about church, which defies the argument church and state. So anybody was has a God can have their own God. In this country that is the uniqueness about it.
(Q)- How do you feel regarding the resurgence in interest in your career over the past ten months time?
Lee Greenwood- I’ll be sixty years old in October of this year and I’m playing shows now with country acts who are under 25 years of age. So, to suddenly be on the same bill with all these young people is great! I have a new album coming out on Curb (Records) which is called, “Stronger Then Time”, with an October release date but that could be adjusted. So, I’m happy to be back and on deck once again.
(Q)- What style of music is planned to be featured on the new album?
Lee Greenwood- No patriotic songs will be on this new album. That’s right there will be no patriotic songs on this album, it’s a country album. In order to recapture the country market and fans for me, I’ll be doing all country songs on the new album. This album is not ballad heavy. Also, there’s not one song that I wrote for on this album. This is the first album in thirty-one albums now, that I have not written one song for. I’ve been just too busy. And, it’s a very excellent song and there is twelve cuts. It’s called “Stronger Then Time”.
(Q)- Is it hard core traditional country music?
Lee Greenwood- There’s only one song on the album that’s old, traditional country music. That song is called, “Love Me Like You’ve Never Been Hurt”, I’m sure it will be a solid ballad. That song is just a great country song. There is powerful, songs and cool tunes with some lessons in life right in there. We had a good photo session too! (For the album cover artwork.) I’m lucky about that. For this one we’ve taken songwriters from all over Nashville.
(Q)- Have you adjusted your vocal style at all over the past two decades you’ve been recording and performing your dynamic song, “God Bless the
USA”? You do have an exceptionally strong and wide vocal range.
Lee Greenwood-. Over the past fifty years, I have done nothing different. It’s just been a matter of singing a lot and I’m better whenever I’m singing more then whenever I’m singing less. I was a sprinter in college. I went to college on a scholarship because of that, so that helps my breathing and lungs as well. If I didn’t sing for about three months, my vocal cords would go lax and I’d have trouble getting them back (in shape), particularly at this age. But, I’ll admit it (Singing in Lee’s own, unique style.) is a very physical job.
